First off, the easiest way of making a spray would be to dl a spray making program, the one I use is attached. This tag converter I use is a standalone program, it doesn't need to be installed. - First, after you downloaded the attachment, extract the program out of the rar(click on this to get the rar program, 7z extractor can extract this too.), doesn't matter were it's extracted, then open it and click on the first button, look for the image you want to convert to a spray and open it.
- Then click on adjust image, that will resize it to within the max area hl1 will allow for a spray.
- Then click on save tag button, and save as a wad, with the name of tempdecal.wad. after you've done that, copy it to your game directory(.../half-life/svencoop/ or the mod directory for what ever game your playing, if your not playing sc.) and go into the file properties to make the file read only(this is an absolute must.), if you don't do that your spray will be overwritten, when you run the game.
- If the spray looks screwed up in-game you may have to play around with the resolution of the spray a bit, some resolutions will make sprays look screwed up in-game.

That's a nice little program, a lot more user friendly than Wally! LP1 wrote: it wont let me extract it Two things that I can think of: it may have corrupted for some reason in the download process (delete it and re-download); or your extraction program is fubar. If you haven't already, you might consider 7zip- it's become a well-established compression utility, it's open source (free!) and it will work on .zip, .rar, .7z

works for me, using winrar to extract, have tried extracting 7zip.
I've just started using 7z in the past month or to, wasn't using it at the time I made the post.

Yeah, hltagconverter is a great program, I use it.. another way you can get some simple tags is to search them up on fpsbanana.com ... they usually come in zipped or rar files containing the tempdecal.wad file that you just extract right into your svencoop folder, easy tags but less of a selection than actually customizing your own.

The thing about the maximum area in the spray making program can be surpassed, by how much I don't know, I've seen one or 2 sprays used in-game that are at the 128x128 resolution which would put it over the max area the hl1 engine "supposedly" allows, but you would have to use a different wad making program as this one wouldn't allow to make one at 128x128.

Yeah, I had one of those that surpassed it but I wasn't sure how to use the files, there were like 3 or 4 files that supported it.. It was a decal of a fake ladder

If the combined area of the spray(width times height) is less then 12,288, then the program will allow you to make it, either the W "or" the H of the spray can be more then 128 if the other is small enough to where the area is less then that. So you would probably be able to use the ladder spray since the width wouldn't be very much.

It won't show up in the config(sprays work a bit differently in hl1 games then source games.).
You "have" to make the file you replace read only or it'll just be replaced when you run the game.
