Hey kids,
Just something to pass along that was discovered by playing around with various console settings recently.
If you're having trouble hearing folks using microphones (as many people tend to have somewhat lousy mics that aren't very loud), try entering the following commands in your console:
voice_maxgain 50 voice_avggain .09
Please note it's been found that these can make the newer versions of fmodex.dll (that's the dll that keeps making 4.0b crash all the damn time) a little more unstable, but seem to work fine with the older version (4.20.6).
The second part of the topic is that the much beloved 'stopsound' command has returned, though in a slightly different form. The console command "cl_stopsound" is available as of SC4.06. For those unfamiliar with the command, stopsound is pretty much the only reliable way to kill music embedded into a map and glitched, repeating sound effects. So if you're tired of hearing the looping 'creepy' music on re1 for the hundredth time, you can now make it go away.

oh, cool - I didn't realize stopsound also worked on music - I use to only use it for the looping noises (especially that annoying rocket sound) cl_stopsound, FTW!!!

This is good, except there is no way to make people do this correctly via chat. Hrm.

I'm pretty sure you can stick them into one of the config files but I'm not 100% certain which one. Cartman?

You can put them in autoexec.cfg and add the line exec autoexec.cfg to the userconfig.cfg to make sure it's executed on game start.
