Ya i cant carve in valve hammer becuse when ever i carve ti says error in the log and im carving out squares and it still doesnt work! please help!

really the carve tool isn't meant for carving out squares
carve diagnols instead

Well i carve out squares to make door ways and windows,etc i basically carve to make holes

you could try to use the clipping tool but it's harder to use then carve but better, can lower the amount of polys in a scene if your know what your doing with it.

yaaaaa i dont think i can carve with that tool i just make a block to the size of the thing i whant and press carve yo make a door way

Carving has been said to be one of the WORST tools ever designed in any map making program :P
I have designed maps for quite a few games and in all the other programs I've used, I've never encountered anything quite so catastrophic as the carve tool for Hammer :P

I only use it you cut off pieces of a brush that I made a little to big and overlaps another brush.

I Strongly suggest that you learn to use the clipping tool, It's uses are innumerable and it's a lot more "Compile friendly"... Try Google for video tutorials, I found a few when I first started with hammer.
